The Furniture Capital of the World Just Got More Fun
High Point, NC is known worldwide as the Furniture Capital of the World — but when the showrooms close and the market crowds head home, locals know where the real fun is. Dive Bar High Point sits at 312 N. Elm Street, right in the heart of downtown, surrounded by some of the most storied commercial blocks in the Triad.
The Neighborhood North Elm Street is one of downtown High Point's main arteries, flanked by the iconic showroom buildings that have made this city a global destination twice a year for the High Point Market. During market weeks in April and October, 70,000 to 80,000 visitors descend on this neighborhood — but year-round, it's a genuine and growing downtown community. The Elm Street corridor connects to the broader downtown grid, with local restaurants, music venues, and businesses filling in around the massive furniture showrooms.
A Brief History High Point emerged as a furniture manufacturing powerhouse by 1900, thanks to the Southern Railroad, abundant Piedmont hardwood, and entrepreneurial local industry. By 1904, there were already 107 furniture plants operating in the city. The first formal Southern Furniture Market was held in 1909, and the iconic exposition building opened in 1921. Today the High Point Market operates out of 180 buildings across the city and contributes an estimated $6.7 billion to the regional economy (per a 2018 Duke University study). Outside of market weeks, downtown High Point is a neighborhood that locals are actively reclaiming and revitalizing.
Parking Street parking is available along N. Elm Street and surrounding blocks. Several public parking lots and decks are located within easy walking distance of Dive Bar, many of which are free after business hours. During High Point Market weeks, coordinate parking in advance.
What Makes This Location Unique Dive Bar High Point is family-friendly from open until 8 PM daily — making it a fantastic after-school or weekend destination for families. With pool tables, arcade games, darts, a full bar, and regular events like Line Dancing (Thursdays) and weekly specials, it's a cornerstone of downtown High Point nightlife. This location brings the fun and affordable Dive Bar spirit to a neighborhood that's getting more interesting by the year.
